The Destination: where the car is going

You are here

You have your circle back, you know what is yours, and now you are sitting in the car in the drive with the engine running. Where are you going? Not away from what. Toward what?

What is actually happening

A car with no destination is traffic. Once you know where you are going, every choice gets a measure: does this take me closer to what I want? Fast route or scenic, both are fine, but choose it. The brain works in this order: threats first, habits second, reward third, intentional goals last. So an intention only holds if you link it to something the deep brain cares about, hook it to a habit by repetition, and make it rewarding. Goals need a story or the brain will not steer toward them.

The misread

Setting the destination as a place away from someone. “Anywhere he is not.” A destination that is only distance is flight. It gets you on the motorway with no exit in mind.

Settle first

Rate life now out of ten. Say the number. Then one breath.

The tool

Three-month destination

From the boards: what do you want in the next three months, what do you need to get it, what is holding you back, what is the plan. Three gates before you commit: is it plausible, is it possible, do you want it. Then the smallest first move, done within 48 hours, so the engine restarts on evidence.

Before you read onFast route or scenic, and did you choose it?
A destination is toward something, or it is just distance.
Worksheet

The four questions, the three gates, the first move and its date.

If you moved, you chose to move. And if you chose it, you can choose differently.
